IMET2000 Annual Dinner
February 1, 2013
he Annual Dinner (our one big fundraising event) was held for the third year running in the Peer’s Dining Room in the House of Lords on the 1st February. This was hosted by Lord John Alderdice who is a Patron of IMET2000 and particularly interested in our child mental health programme in Palestine. Our guests of honour were: the Palestinian Minister of Health Dr Hani Abdeen and his wife Silvana; Ms Caroline Lucas ,Green Party MP for Brighton and another Patron of IMET2000; and Ms Hadas Ziv, Field Projects Director of Physicians for Human Rights Israel who has been an enormous support to the Palestinians and to human rights activists generally. The MoH was our main speaker. Jon Snow kindly compered the evening and was instrumental in helping us raise through pledges full funding for six separate projects in the West Bank and in Gaza. The evening was a huge success and IMET2000 is now able to plan ahead for at least 9 months. We want to thank all who helped us (not least Harriet Paul our Events Consultant and Peri Bassatne and Julia Helou and their organising Committee) and of course all those who donated their time and money so generously.

Dr Imran Mahmud currently lecturing in Oxford University Medical School led a team of teachers to the West Bank to work with Palestinian medical students in Al Quds Medical School in their hospital clinical years. This visit was supported in part by IMET2000 even though it was focused on working with undergraduates since these are in their final year and the OxPal/Medicine Africa Team are keen to work with IMET2000 in postgraduate studies in the near future. Dr Mahmud is a Trustee of IMET2000. A full report of their visit can be viewed on the following link http://oxpal.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/OxPal-May-2013.pdf.
